One Hundred Committee Event Honors First Responders and Raises Scholarship Support for Girls

SHARE

Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara presents the One Hundred Committee Scholarship Fundraising Event on Saturday, April 7th at 6PM at the Goleta Valley Center, 4973 Hollister Avenue. The event will honor and thank first responders, many of whom will be in attendance, and will also serve as an anniversary celebration of Girls Inc.’s 60 years in Santa Barbara. Event proceeds provide scholarship assistance so that any girl, regardless of her family’s financial situation, can participate in Girls Inc. programs.

Last year, Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara awarded $534,818 in financial assistance to help 443 girls attend Girls Inc.’s after-school and summer camp programs. This year, the assistance need is even greater because so many parents have been, or continue to be, out of work following the recent fire and debris-flow disasters.

Scholarship Event tickets are available for $300 each and can be reserved online or by calling Girls Inc. at 805-963-4757. The event features a sit-down dinner and dancing, as well as raffle and live auction. Click here for event invitation, raffle and auction information, and a full list of sponsors.

The event helps to kick off the organization’s 60th Anniversary locally with a special 2018 Girls Inc. logo and the theme “Imagining the Future for Girls.” In 1958, the Girls Club of Santa Barbara was incorporated as a nonprofit organization to help girls become good wives, mothers, homemakers, and citizens, and served 280 girls a year, ages 6-16. Today, Girls Inc.’s mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, and the organization – one of 81 Girls Inc. affiliates in the U.S. – believes every girl deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy, educated, and independent. In 2017, the Santa Barbara affiliate served nearly 1,400 girls in our community, ages 5-18, through after-school and summer camp programs, a teen center, and a recreational to competitive level gymnastics program. In addition to scholarship assistance, Girls Inc. also offers sibling discounts to families with multiple girls participating in its programs.

About the One Hundred Committee

For more than 33 years, the One Hundred Committee – Santa Barbara women dedicated to the mission of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold – has provided financial support for Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara. The committee’s primary focus is to raise scholarship money to help girls participate in Girls Inc. after-school and summer camp programs. The One Hundred Committee’s signature fundraising event, held each spring, has consistently raised more than $200,000 each year toward this assistance.
