StrongHER Together: The Power of Sport

Every time she steps up to vault, or grabs the uneven bars, Jazmin Ordaz knows she’s got it.

Jazmin, 14, has been a Girls Inc. gymnast for nearly half her life, working her way up to Level 6 and earning a spot on the competitive team. Through gymnastics, Jazmin has unlocked her potential as a fierce competitor, while also growing as a loyal, caring teammate. She’s a leader in the making and continues to test her limits working on new skills and in new competitions.

You’ll hear her story in her own words on April 16th at our FREE virtual event, StrongHER Together: Finding Strength through Sport. All of our friends and community members are invited to join us for this free family-friendly and inspiring event. From toddler to daughter to mom and beyond, all women have inner strength and powerful stories. That’s why we made this event open to everyone – we want to share the stories of our strong, smart and bold Girls Inc. stars who will become tomorrow’s advocates, scientists, and leaders. We hope every person who joins us sees a little of themselves in these stories, and that the energy we share at this event inspires us ALL to be SMART, STRONG, and BOLD in all areas of our lives.

You’ll also get to meet our keynote speakers Melissa McConville and Dr. Sara Tanza, co-founders of the annual She.Is.Beautiful 5K and 10K in Santa Barbara. Melissa and Sara are UCSB alumnae who turned their passion for running into a community event that empowers women and girls together through movement. They have built a space for womxn to feel empowered and feel safe to express themselves through movement. She.Is.Beautiful has been a long time partner of Girls Inc. and our shared passion for creating spaces that  empower womxn is why we want YOU to hear from them too!

But Girls Inc. uses more than just sports to unlock the potential of our future leaders.

Roz, a longtime beloved Girls Inc. community member, will also share how the Girls Inc. experience has shaped them to use their voices and skills to create positive change, and has readied them for the journeys ahead. Roz grew up with us at Girls Inc., having started attending programs as early as third grade. Roz was recently named Girls Inc. National Scholars and will attend college in the fall. Roz epitomizes the notion that together, we as a Girls Inc. community are strongHER.

StrongHER Together will showcase the strength, intelligence, and boldness of EVERYONE who comes to Girls Inc. and that we are developing the world’s boldest leaders of tomorrow. We can’t wait to share their stories with you.
